Initial Certification
The 8-hour Initial Security Guard Instruction class is required to be completed in order to submit application to the State of Hawaii for the GDE License (guard card). This is a one-day class conducted in person.
To obtain a State of Hawaii Guard License, applicants must complete an 8-hour initial security guard instruction class. This is a one-day, in-person, class.
STEP 1.
Applicants are required to complete an eight (8) hour course and pass a written test conducted by a Board-approved provider. Once this is completed, you will receive the necessary Certificate of Instruction in order to apply for the GDE license.
STEP 2. FINGERPRINTS BASED CRIMINAL CONVICTION HISTORY CHECK
A fingerprint based criminal conviction background check is also required. We will assist you in obtaining criminal fingerprint check.
STEP 3. SUBMIT A GUARD EMPLOYEE REGISTRATION APPLICATION & FEES
The final step is to submit a Guard Employee Registration application to the Board of Private Detectives and Guards. Applications may be submitted online or via hard copy.
Recertification
Licenses must be recertified annually. We offer 4-hour recertification courses.
The 4-hour Recertification Security Guard Instruction class is required to be completed annually to recertify security guard license. This is a four-day class conducted in person.
In order to maintain an active license, a four (4) hour recertification course is required. We offer in person classes. Following the completion of course and test, we will issue a Certificate of Instruction, which can be submitted to the Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs, Board of Private Detectives and Guards.
